We got our Kicks on Rt. 66
It all began with a facination of riding the mother road and seeing historic Rt. 66...so we planned for
months...fly into Vegas, taxi to Harley Dealer, get on the bike and head for Santa Monica Calif. to begin
the trip of a lifetime. We joined the Rt. 66 Federation and sent for all the reading materials possible to know what to see while traveling. We were both very excited. Made it through the Mojave
Desert and into Arizona. How gorgeous the scenery
was, but, so desolate...sometimes we'd drive for a
hundred miles without seeing another person..and you
could see a hundred miles ahead of you and behind you and there was no one. We had just entered the Hualapai Indian Reservation land and Rich pulled over and shut down the bike and the silence was actually deafening if you could understand that. It was dusk and the sun was just creeping above the mountain tops. Absolutely breathtaking...I grabbed the camera to take some shots and Rich walked to the middle of
Rt. 66 and told me to take his picture. When I tried
to focus the camera I see that He is on one knee in the middle of the road and he said "There is no one in this world that I would rather spend the rest of my life with, Will you do me the honor of being my wife?....Needless to say, I dropped the camera and ran into his arms and there we kissed and held eachother and I cried..right there in the middle of the road. It was so unexpected, I'd been so busy reading & planning this wonderful vacation, I never saw it coming. We have been together for nearly 17 years and we talked about marriage, but, he never really asked me and now I'm planning a wedding...not too shabby for two old folk. We still got it.
