The night our house became a home
My now fiance (boyfriend at the time) and I bought our first house together. My fiance asked me a week before our posession date if I wanted to have a take-out dinner date in our new. He suggested we could just grab some chinese food and bottle of wine and relax in our empty house. The house was a serious fixer-upper and kind of dingy at the time but I agreed. So the night of our posession my fiance picked me up from my parents house and we swung by our favorite restaurant and picked up our dinner. When we got to the house I opened the door and there were dozens of little tea light candles everywhere and a beautifully set table in the middle of the otherwise empty living room. He managed to resurrect an absolutely beautiful moment from this dingy old house. I thought this in itself was the suprise so I relaxed and settled in for a nice dinner. After we ate my fiance asked me if I wanted desert, I said yes. Then he said "oh and one more question" then he got down on one knee beside me and asked me if I would marry him. It was the sweetest thing anyone has ever done for me. After I joyfully agreed, he told me how he organized the whole suprise and how he had asked my parents for permission weeks ago. Then he called them on his cell phone and said "she said yes!" All the thought and effort is what made is so touching. We have since completely renovated our house and it doesn't look the same, but every time I sit in the spot where he proposed I remember why I love him so much. Suprises like this don't have to cost lots of $$$ they just have to be from the heart.
