I'm safely on the ground and I'm engaged!!
When my boyfriend and I got the opportunity to go to Hawaii, we decided that we would go skydiving one of the days we were there. We had both always wanted to and Hawaii is supposed to be one of the most beautiful spots to jump.
The day had arrived, and I was ready! We got strapped to our tandem partner, took the plane up to correct altitude and it was time. My boyfriend and his tandem partner jumped first, and me and my tandem partner jumped next. The experience of jumping out of a plane is like nothing you can imagine, it was completely surreal.
Once my tandem master pulled our chute, he pointed towards the ground and told me we would be landing at the white spot I could see on the ground. I thought "okayy looks like a van to take us back to the building”. As we continue to descend, he keeps asking me "Can you see it? Can you see it?" and I responded with “Umm yeah, is it not always there?!"
After being asked about 10 times if I could see the sign, and then could I read the sign, I was eventually able to make out the words “Laura, Will you marry me?” I was nodding yes, yes, yes before my feet ever hit the ground.
But I got over to him, and he took my hands and he said "As exciting as jumping out of an airplane was, there is nothing more exciting than the thought of being able to spend the rest of my life with you”, and then he got down on one knee, opened the ring box and said "Will you marry me?" (Of course, I didn't play my part correctly, because I grabbed the ring instead of letting him slide it on my finger after I said yes)
That day will always be surreal to me; it was two unbelievable experiences back to back. I jumped out of an airplane for the first time and had the love of my life ask me to marry him. It was nothing short of perfect.
