Commissioned on May 21 1948, becoming the first warship of the Israeli Sea Corps. Currently, Germany has reconsidered providing funding for a sixth submarine for the Israeli navy. The arrival of the ships is expected to significantly change the face of the Navy and the Shayetet 3 in particular. Navy Commander in Chief, Major General Eli Sharvit said, “ We will receive the ships in about two years, each one a few months after the last. Shayetet 13 (Flotilla 13, Hebrew: שייטת 13) is the Israeli naval commando elite special forces (SF) unit. The S-13 is part of the Navy of the Israel Defense Forces (IDF).

Served mainly for training, with limited combat capability. The new sailors will be deployed on the Navy's Sa'ar 5 corvettes, and later this year, when the Navy expects to add the Sa'ar 6 model to its fleet, women will serve on those boats, as well. (due to the financial situation). The S-13 (shorthand for "Shayetet 13") is considered one of the top-three SF units in Israel (along with Sayeret Matkal (the General Staff Special Unit) and Sayeret Shaldag (the air force special unit)). Few israeli officials have repeatedly announced that the Israeli Navy had a future requirement of up to 9 submarines !. Renamed to INS Matzpen in 1957. But this figure (probably announced to impress Iran…) seems too large & unrealistic for the Israeli finance (and real ops needs). (February 27, 2020 / JNS) As Israel’s adversaries equip themselves with growing numbers of advanced anti-ship cruise missiles, the Israel Navy’s Weapons Systems Department must keep up with the threats and ensure that countermeasures are installed onboard Israeli ships in time. The Israeli Navy completed tests of its anti-submarine and mine detecting unmanned ship Seagull, contractor Elbit Systems announced on Tuesday. The ship's missiles systems is a set of: (i) anti-air capability with 2x32-cell vertical launch systems, with Barak-1 and/or Barak-8 missiles of IAI and Rafael, and (ii) … The Israeli navy seized an international pro-Palestinian activist ship in the Mediterranean sea on Saturday to prevent it from breaching its blockade of the Gaza Strip, a military spokeswoman said. Until now, the only women who served on Israeli Navy missile ships had completed the Naval Officers Course. Turkish navy ships intercepted an Israeli research ship in Cypriot waters two weeks ago and drove it away, Channel 13 news reported Saturday, quoting senior Israeli officials.
