Maps. This palmetto log fort was built in 1776 in the defense of Charleston and went through many changes over its lifetime from the Revolutionary, !812, Civil, WWII. Historic Fort Moultrie features 171 years of seacoast defense history from the American Revolution through World War II. Historic pictures were shown to illustrate his talk. Fort Moultrie's history covers more that 220 years of seacoast defense, from the first decisive victory in the American Revolution, to protecting the coast from U-boats in World War II.
