Many couples choose to stay in the Wailea Beach area of Maui because it is centrally located between west and south Maui meaning you have easy access to all the attractions that Maui has to offer. If you really want to splash out on accommodation, the Four Seasons Resort at Wailea Beach has stunning views and luxurious suites as well as a spa and serenity pool, and the Grand Wailea Hotel has truly stunning rooms located in the Napua Tower. For more privacy you could consider one of the beautifully furnished villas or penthouses at Wailea Beach Villas.

Where to Stay in West Maui

For those considering a proposal in West Maui, Napili Bay is a wonderful place to stay, and The Mauian on Napili Bay is a great choice. It is a small boutique hotel, known for combining nostalgic 1950s tropics architecture with contemporary designer touches to provide a hotel with real charm and character. If you’d like to stay a little closer to Lahaina, you could consider a hotel at Kaanapali such as the Kaanapali Beach Hotel, a beautiful hotel that prides itself on introducing Hawaiian culture and activities to its guests.

If you’d like to stay in Lahaina itself, the location of Lahaina Shore Beach Resort, a complex of vacation condos on the oceanfront along historic Front Street, is hard to beat. It is a plantation style resort, with old world charm and modern day luxury. Enjoy the fantastic views from your private lanais or relax at the whirlpool spa.

Where to Stay in South Maui

Couples staying in south Maui tend to choose the area around Makena Beach and the Makena Beach and Golf Resort is a tranquil and luxurious setting for your proposal vacation. The white sandy beaches as well as the superb hotel spa will leave you feeling truly rejuvenated, and if you like to play golf you couldn’t find a more beautiful location for a couple of rounds.

Although the west and south of Maui are the most popular locations to stay, the north and east of the island are certainly worth a look. Couples staying in the north might consider the vibrant town of Paia, where the Paia Inn Hotel will provide a warm welcome. Those looking to stay in Hana for a sunrise proposal would do well to check out the Travaasa Hana, an amazing resort and the first on the island to welcome the rising sun. Consider their Sea Ranch Cottages for a unique experience.

Hawaiian food is a colorful mix of cultures and influences, combining American, Chinese, Filipino, Japanese, Korean, Polynesian, and Portuguese cuisine to form an eclectic mix. While there are plenty of superb Hawaiian restaurants on Maui, you can also find wonderful restaurants serving continental, American, and Asian food.

Restaurants in Lahaina

David Paul’s Island Grill on Front Street in Lahaina is fantastic choice for a post proposal dinner. The New Island menu focuses on island-fresh, organic produce, and simple dishes prepared with the best quality ingredients. Enjoy a celebratory cocktail in the sky lounge before you begin your meal.

The Feast at Lehe is also located on Front Street and is a special place to soak up the atmosphere over dinner. Every table is intimate and provides a view of the west Maui sunset, and the menu is truly Hawaiian, as is the evening entertainment.

Gerard’s is a French restaurant that provides another romantic choice in Lahaina. Combining French cuisine with fresh island produce, the menu is top class, and you can choose to eat in the charming dining room, or outside on the veranda or patio.

Restaurants in Kaanapali

Leilani’s On The Beach is a seafood restaurant in Whaler’s Village that serves only seasonal fish according to Hawaiian traditions. As well as the formal dining room there is a more casual beach side grill with views out towards Molokai and Lanai.

Umalu is a full service dining restaurant with a casual feel, located alongside the pool at the Hyatt Regency Maui Resort Hotel on Kaanapali Beach. It serves contemporary Hawaiian cuisine and has a fabulous view over the ocean.

Son’z Maui at Swan Court is the more formal dining option at the Hyatt Regency and is a riot of warm Hawaiian colors, with a fabulous atmosphere. Seafood, steaks, and homemade pasta give a Mediterranean feel to the excellent menu.

Restaurants in Wailea

Ko is located at the Fairmont Kea Lani in Wailea and offers superb dishes inspired by the sugarcane plantation era. It combines Hawaiian, Chinese, Filipino, Portuguese, Korean, and Japanese influences with a decidedly contemporary twist. The recently refurbished decor is the icing on the cake.

Hali’imaile General Store is located in Hali’imaile some distance from Wailea, but it’s worth a visit as one of Maui’s most iconic restaurants. A multiple award winner, this restaurant is located among the pineapple fields of upcountry Maui and features a unique menu of Hawaiian Regional Cuisine.
